Confused about your feelings for your friend? Listen to The Juans’ latest single ‘bestfriend’

A BEST FRIEND is someone with whom a person can comfortably share their stories, interests, secrets, struggles, innermost thoughts, and feelings, among many other things.

It just shows how close they are and how important they are in each other’s lives. But what if one realizes their love for the other is no longer platonic? Is it wrong to fall in love with their best friend?

This is the same interesting question to ponder in “bestfriend,” a new song by Filipino boy band The Juans dedicated to fans whose romantic feelings were not reciprocated and got stuck in the friendzone.

Released this Love Month, “bestfriend” features an upbeat melody and playful lyrics to highlight the band’s lighthearted take on unrequited love.

“Bestfriend” marks The Juans’ second comeback to the music scene this year. It followed the release of “Pasensyoso,” a song about patience, commitment, and staying in love even if it is hard.

A ‘sign’ to confess or contemplate

The Juans members Carl Guevarra, Japs Mendoza, RJ Cruz, and Chael Adriano talked about their latest single and falling in love with a best friend in an episode of their “KwentoJuan” podcast.

Adriano, the band’s bassist and “Pasensyoso” composer, shared that “bestfriend” is a song for individuals who ponder on their romantic feelings for a friend.

“Bestfriend” could either be their “sign” to confess their love or think carefully about their next move, he added.

“Send this song to your crush with caution,” advised guitarist Japs Mendoza.

Guevarra, The Juans frontman, chimed in, “That’s the beauty about this song. It doesn’t really answer the question but it tells you that we get what you feel and may nakakaintindi sa ganyang situation.”

“Isabay mo ‘tong podcast na ‘to sa pag-iisip kung ‘go, go, go’ or ‘no, no, no,'” he continued.

‘Juaniversity’ continues

To promote “bestfriend,” The Juans continues to embark on a campus tour nationwide where it brings its fans, collectively known as Juanistas, together and gives them major LSS (Last Song Syndrome) with their relatable hits.

Here are the band’s upcoming tour dates:

  • February 21 – 71st Foundation Day of Central Colleges of the Philippines
