BEAUTY standards have put a lot of pressure specifically on women to always look their best, whether it be for their own sake or the others. This is most certainly true to the women in the showbiz industry; that talent aside, you must always look physically pleasing, otherwise you risk getting hated and judged. Coleen Garcia, actress and celebrity mom, gets real on an Instagram story about these beauty standards.
Most known for her acting, hosting and striking beauty, Garcia has stated that she’s not always in her best state to appear pretty for everyone, that she has her moments like any normal person where she’s the opposite of what people perceive her to be—a perfect looking celebrity with little to no flaws to show.
On her Instagram story, she posted two different photos of her—the first one where she’s all glammed up with a caption that read “What you think I look like at home,” and the other photo of her barefaced with the highlighted caption “But actually… Sometimes, I look like this.”
“I look sick. I look pale. I look depressed. My hair’s a frizzy mess, especially in this insane heat,” she continued, commenting on her current appearance.
The ‘Adarna Gang’ actress noted as well the reason behind her looking ‘unwell’ is not linked to any vices that some people may speculate upon seeing her unglamorous look.
“No, it’s not [be]cause of bisyo (vice). It’s not [be]cause of unbearable stress, or marital problems or depression. It’s because I’m human. We all are. I break out, I get tired, I am getting older every day,” she stated.
Furthermore, Garcia said people always have a choice to create a safe place where everyone’s authenticity and individuality are welcomed and accepted instead of attacking people based on their physical appearance alone.
“Anyone can bash, judge and speculate; or we can lessen that, and make it SAFER for people to be unapologetically authentic, cause no one should ever have to feel like they need to put on a mask just to be accepted,” declared the actress.
“Showbiz is a switch we turn on until we get to shed the makeup, the hair extensions and the pretensions and just BE. We complain about how everything on social media is so fake and filtered, and then in the same breath, we bash what’s real when we feel like it’s not pretty enough for us,” she further explained.
The 31-year-old actress is currently on hiatus from showbiz as she focuses on taking care of her and her husband Billy Crawford’s three-year-old son, Amari.
