Chloe San Jose opens up about family on Toni Talks

YESTERDAY, October 7th, host Toni Gonzaga uploaded a new episode of her show, “Toni Talks,” wherein she interviewed Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo’s girlfriend, 22-year-old Chloe San Jose.

Since Yulo distanced himself from his family, many attacked San Jose, claiming she was the reason for this.

When asked how she manages to confront everything with a smile, San Jose answered that it was because she knew what they were saying wasn’t true.

Opening up about her past

Chloe shared that what she’d gone through in the past was worse than what she faces now. She grew up with her grandmother and moved to Australia at 11, spending time with her mother who had, by that time, gotten remarried. San Jose’s parents had separated when she was two years old.

“Ang tough ng naging – hindi dahil sa paga-adjust – relationship talaga with family members ng nandoon sa Australia,” she said.

She experienced domestic violence, physically and verbally, while living there, which is why she left at 18. At the time, she often looked forward to going to school to avoid being home.

She said: “Kaya siguro nami-misunderstood yung “tapang” ko, kasi they don’t know naman what happened sa early childhood ko.”

Afterward, she lived with her best friend’s family for seven months. Upon finishing high school, she started renting a house, bringing her younger sibling to live with her.

While she has tried to make amends with her mother, she decided to remove herself from that environment completely after realizing that they were just falling back into the same toxic patterns.

In 2020, she met Yulo; she messaged him first, and they started talking. Despite negative comments, San Jose continues to stand up for Yulo. For her, it doesn’t matter if she gets misinterpreted, because she knows her true intentions.

To this, she said: “I’m just standing up for someone that I love and what’s right. I’m just telling the truth.”
