CEBU PACIFIC has recently released a statement regarding a system glitch that has caused malfunctions in their baggage handling system.
This error left hundreds of pieces of luggage behind at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as the baggage handling system was not working properly.
According to the budget carrier, this issue has been going on since October 18.
They stated that this issue has since resulted in 821 bags being left behind as of October 22nd, explaining that they are working closely with the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) to resolve technical challenges as quickly as possible and resume normal operations.
They currently have a team managing the situation and have given passengers the choice of having their bags delivered to their destination or picking them up at the airport for domestic flights.
A similar option has also been given to international flights, as well as delivery services for passengers with onward destinations.
“Our teams are doing everything in their power to expedite baggage deliveries and ensure all affected passengers are assisted promptly,” they wrote.
“We understand the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate our passengers’ patience and understanding.”
At present, they are sending apologies to those voicing out their frustrations in the comments section of their post, and have also recommended either monitoring emails for further details or perusing their Live Agent assistance feature for further questions.
NNIC, who took over operations at the airport in September, has also reassured that they are working with NAIA to ensure that contingency measures are being taken to address this malfunction.
To minimize the impact on those traveling, NNIC and Cebu Pacific have increased their manpower to expedite baggage processing, and have also provided alternative systems and protocols to quickly resolve the issue.
This follows after NNIC stated that they hoped to resolve the current issues at the airport such as broken walkalators, restrooms, and air conditioning systems. They stated that they are working to modernize both the airport’s facilities and critical systems, as this incident shows the need to upgrade the aging infrastructure of NAIA, particularly given that its baggage handling system is currently 20 years old.
NNIC reassures that they have a new and more advanced system that will be implemented soon for maximum efficiency for all parties involved.
