BINI’s song ‘Salamin, Salamin’ has a Japanese cover!

FOLLOWING the release of P-pop girl group BINI’s debut extended play (EP), Filipinos have been obsessed with the song “Salamin, Salamin.”

Salamin, Salamin” is one of the six tracks in the “Talaarawan” EP, which also contained BINI’s other hit songs “Karera” and “Pantropiko.”

The song, which talks about the feeling of daydreaming about a potential crush, has taken over social media. Many netizens joined the “Salamin, Salamin” dance challenge on TikTok, while others shared their rendition of the song.

There is a cover that has been winning the hearts of BLOOMs or fans of the nation’s girl group—a Japanese version of “Salamin, Salamin” performed by Filipino musical duo Kena & Miyuki.

Most of the lyrics were written in Japanese, but singer Miyuki sang several lines in English and Filipino.

The chorus part goes: “Mahou no kagami itsu made mateba ii / honne wo kikeru made / mahou no kagami dou sureba ii / kokoro ga mitasarenai / kagami, kabe no kagami ai wa doko na no / kagami, kabe no kagami oshiete hoshii no / kagami, kabe no kagami ai wa doko na no / kagami, kagami itsu kidzuitekureru no?”

Miyuki wrote the Japanese translation of the lyrics, while Ken worked on the guitar and the rendition’s arrangement and production.

Yuna Reguerra and Rojh Baquiran worked on the bass and sound mixing, respectively.

The duo’s song cover has now garnered over 73,000 views on YouTube.

On Facebook, it has 428,000 plays and more than four thousand shares.

Netizens approve

The Japanese rendition of “Salamin, Salamin” has received positive feedback, with many Facebook users applauding the duo.

“Ganda pakinggan ng Japanese version,” one netizen commented.

“Ganda lalo na yung rap na part,” another social media user reacted.

“So much love for this!! The flow of the lyrics is perfect!!” a social media user said.

Other netizens suggested that the duo’s song cover could be used as a theme song for an anime series, particularly shoujo or those with high school romance, fantasy, and action tales.

“It’s like a song from a love story anime series,” said a Facebook user.

“Pang anime ending song ang dating,” another netizen said.

This was not the first time Kena & Miyuki went viral for their Japanese song covers.

In June 2022, they took the internet by storm with their rendition of the Original Pinoy Music (OPM) hit song “Migraine” by Filipino rock band Moonstar88. Their cover has over three million views on YouTube, as of writing.

They have other covers of OPM songs like “Kailan,” “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na,” “Torete,” “MAPA,” and “Pasensya Ka Na.”
