BINI Gwen asks for privacy after fans knock on hotel doors for photos

FRIENDLY reminder: Celebrities are humans, too.

Yesterday, August 14, Gwen Apuli of the popular P-Pop group BINI took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her disappointment over the recent behavior of some fans.

“Nakakalungkot, palala ng palala,” she wrote.

“I really hope everyone respect[s] people’s privacy. Yung personal time we’re trying to adjust kase wala ganon na talaga, pero kahit privacy na lang, we appreciate your love and support and we always try na mapagbigyan kayo sa pagpapapicture but please… not to the point you’ll knock [on] our rooms just for picture[s.]”

GMA Entertainment News reported that this happened after the girl group’s concert in Edmonton, Canada.

BINI’s other members have since supported Gwen’s tweets. Maloi Ricalde, for example, quote-tweeted this: “Rest is essential.”

Aiah Arceta replied to Gwen’s tweets: “We genuinely care for and appreciate everyone who supports us. However, at the end of the day, tao lang din kami and need din namin ng personal time and space para makapag-recharge. Recharged BINI girlies = renewed energy and positive spirit that can radiate to everyone else.”

Some celebrities, such as actress and singer Lea Salonga, have also shown support for BINI amid these issues. Salonga, who had also experienced being harassed by fans, posted a screenshot of Gwen’s tweets to her Instagram.

“Say it with me… respect boundaries!” she wrote.

Not the first time

This incident was only the first of several incidents where fans did not support BINI’s boundaries.

In June, the group had to cut short their Independence Day show at Luneta Park due to an unruly audience. Fans started climbing up posts and over the barriers, which led to the leader of the group, Jhoanna Robles, announcing that they would have to end their performance abruptly.

While BINI made a post thanking their fans, they also said on Facebook: “Safety first po tayo and we hope for your understanding.”

There was also a time wherein Maloi was mobbed by fans while she was on a family outing.

Many fans have since come to the girls’ defense, saying that it was important to continue to respect the privacy of BINI—whether they’re onstage or not.
