Big Bad Wolf makes “ultimate book tour” return to Manila next week

MARK your calendars, bookworms, because Big Bad Wolf will return to Manila!

The world’s biggest book sale is heading for Aseana City, Parañaque City, with a nationwide tour from May 24 up to June 2.

“With ‘Mission 1 Million New Readers’ [tour], we are taking concrete steps towards changing lives through books. Our goal is not just to promote [reading] literacy but also to ignite a lifelong passion for reading across the Philippines,” said Big Bad Wolf co-founder Jacqueline Ng.

Big Bad Wolf will launch the tour that will cover five more countries.

Marking 15 years of the bookstore, Big Bad Wolf promises to have budget-friendly books, meet-and-greet with authors, storytelling sessions, and an interactive event.

The event will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight at Parqal Mall. Admission is free.

In a press conference on Wednesday, huge boxes containing two million new books from authors and publishers worldwide were presented to the attendees.

Fatima Dimaporo, undersecretary for legislative affairs at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was present at the conference and spoke about the connection between reading and reducing poverty.

“There is a clear correlation between education and poverty reduction. Studies around the world showed that increasing access to education can lead to better opportunities,” she said.

She also mentioned the contribution of Big Bad Wolf by addressing the lack of books, textbooks, and other teaching materials to improve the learning process of disadvantaged Filipino children.

Ng added that books have the power to “transform” a child into a different person once they learn to read, as a means of “breaking down limitations.”
