Atasha Muhlach’s P100 allowance back in the day

IN A RECENT episode of Eat Bulaga’s “Peraphy” game on April 19, 2024, Atasha Muhlach, daughter of actors Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales, was the focus of a conversation on financial management.

Chinkee Tan, a wealth coach and author of financial planning books, was a guest in that episode. Atasha asked Chinkee about his “saving tips” for students.

“Kailangan, number one, wag kang magdadala ng pera na higit sa budget mo.

“Kung ang budget mo ay PHP300 lang, yan ang ilagay mo sa wallet mo,” he said.

Chinkee was surprised when Atasha answered Vic Sotto’s question: “Ikaw ba, magkano baon mo noon?”

“100 pesos,” she replied.

Chinkee was in disbelief so he asked if this was in dollars.

Atasha said, “Hindi, pesos. Seryoso.”

It seems that Atasha and her twin brother Andres have learned “financial discipline” because of how their parents taught them about financial management.

In an interview with Vice Ganda on February 4, 2024, Aga Muhlach explained that his twin children knew how to plan their finances as they went abroad for their college studies.

Aga emphasized the importance of learning financial management as this could not be acquired in school.

In an interview with republicasia, Trisha Nicole Magpantay, a 22-year old college student from Muntinlupa City, reacted to Atasha’s claim and said “150 pesos nga, pamasahe ko pa lang yun. Wala pa yung pang kain ko.”

Meanwhile, Ronnel Josh Cruz, also a 22-year old college student, said that in his case, P100 was just enough for his lunch.

“I’m not speaking as someone who is privileged, I mean, it’s just the reality today,” he added.

These reactions from Gen Zs show that given today’s increased commodity prices, budgeting becomes really challenging.

How about you? Is P100 enough for you to survive a day?
