ADMU tops 56 PH higher education institutions in impact rankings

THE ATENEO De Manila University (ADMU) retained its position as the leading Philippine higher education institution (HEI) in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE IR), according to a report from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Friday, June 14.

Ateneo maintained its spot in the 201-300 bracket by ranking first, ahead of the University of the Philippines (UP), De La Salle University (DLSU), and Ifugao State University (IFSU) which all tied for the second spot, CHED said.

The IR ranked HEIs around the world according to their real-world impact as measured through the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is the sole worldwide performance ranking that evaluates universities based on SDGs. It employs meticulously calibrated indicators to offer thorough and well-balanced comparisons across four broad areas, namely: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

ADMU scored 85.1 points on SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, 82.5 on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, 74.5 on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and 84.8 to 90 on SDG 17: Partnership with the goals, with an overall score range of 79.93 to 83.9.

CHED chair Prospero de Vera III noted that the latest THE rankings indicates a “continuous increase for six years in a row.”

“This collective effort reflects the growing understanding that universities have a vital role to play in addressing global challenges,” De Vera explained.

In the six-year consecutive releases of THE IR’s rankings, one Philippine HEI made it to the list in 2019, four in 2020 and 2021, 15 in 2022, 29 in 2023, and 56 institutions clinched spots in this year’s evaluation.

Below is the 2024 THE IR 56 Philippine HEIs globally ranked universities released on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

De Vera emphasized that this progress is “proof that our HEIs are consciously benchmarking and internationalizing their programs, faculty development, research, and public service with other HEIs but also in the context of the global Social Development Goals.”

The United Nations’ SDGs serve as a worldwide initiative to eradicate poverty, safeguard the environment and climate, and promote peace and prosperity for all.

Moreover, the Philippines was among the top 10 countries with the most number of participating HEIs in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
