Family Matters stars express disappointment over MMFF Awards results

by Athena Yap

DAYS after the results of the Metro Manila Film Festival Awards were revealed, actresses Agot Isidro and Nikki Valdez still can’t seem to get over the fate of their movie “Family Matters.”

Isidro took to Twitter to share her sentiments, saying that she went home feeling “slightly disappointed” because the jurors did not recognize the other aspects and message in the film.

“Umuwi na medyo disappointed na hindi napansin man lang ang iba’t ibang aspeto ng aming pelikula,” Isidro said.

Family Matters only won one award, the “Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award,” for which the actress said she was grateful.

She also said she felt heartened by all the positive feedback she received from those who have watched the movie, and from the good wishes she and the cast members received from supporters.

“Ang nakakapag luwag ng aming dibdib ay ang messages of support, lahat ng glowing reviews, posts na hinihimay ang storya, mga reaksyon pagkalabas ng sinehan,” she said.

The actress said she hopes the lessons from their movie will be taken to heart.

“Hangad namin na ang mga aral na natutunan at natuklasan muli ay inyong isasapuso,” she said.

Actress Nikki Valdez also had similar sentiments with Isidro.

Valdez said she felt it was “mission accomplished” when the movie received great reviews from netizens.

In her Facebook post on Wednesday, the actress also shared her thoughts about the awarding results.

“Hindi man kami nanominate sa napakaraming categories kagabi, pinakamasarap na award na sa amin ang marinig sa karamihan na ‘blessing’ ang pelikula namin sa kanila. Dun palang, panalong panalo na kami,” she said.

Rita Avila, one of her showbiz friends, also expressed her support by commenting on Valdez’ post.

“I agree. Ang galing nyong lahat. Congratulations.”

The horror film “Deleter” was the big winner at the MMFF Awards. It went home with seven honors including Best Picture, Best Director for Mikhail Red, and Best Actress for Nadine Lustre.
