Ely Buendia reveals Eheads documentary “in the works”

by Deanna Macaranas

Filipino rock band Eraserheads’ former lead vocalist Ely Buendia revealed that an Eheads documentary is in the works.

Buendia was interviewed by Hiraya Magazine, and when asked about the rumored Netflix special, he briefly confirmed that there will be a documentary about the band coming soon.

“There’s going to be a documentary on the Eheads and that’s all I can say for now,” he replied.

When asked whom he wanted to play as Ely if there were a film about him and the Eraserheads, he answered, “Marlon Brando,” adding that “he’s the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).”

The singer-songwriter declined to reveal more information about the upcoming documentary.

Eraserheads was formed in 1989 and is known for their hit songs: “Overdrive,” “Huwag Mo Nang Itanong,” “Yoko,” “Sembreak,” “Ligaya,” “Maling Akala,” “With A Smile,” “Magasin,” “Pare Ko,” “Minsan,” “Alapaap,” and “Ang Huling El Bimbo.”

The band broke up in 2002. Much later, in 2021, Buendia dropped the bomb on a Spotify podcast “Wake Up with Jim and Saab” by claiming that the bandmates had never been friends.

But on December 22, 2022, four former Eheads members—Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro—reunited for their “Ang Huling El Bimbo” concert.

“You have inspired us to come back so this is for all of you guys, we love you,” Buendia said during the concert.

At the end of the Hiraya interview, Buendia shared a message for aspiring Filipino artists: “Be on your own way.”
