Republicasia recognized anew by DLSU

AS a testament to true journalism founded on the principles of informing today’s generation republicasia’s writers were recognized anew, this time by the 20th Lasallian Scholarium Awards.

From regular to former writers and interns, the De La Salle University acknowledged the stories being made by Gen Z writers for the Gen Zs, capturing the young audience and letting them enjoy reading, while also being informed and entertained.

Five of republicasia’s stories had been nominated:

Joanna Deala and Gaby Agbulos were cited for their article: “El Nino and its effects on Gen Zs’ mental health”

The same duo is behind another recognized story titled:Is returning to the old school calendar a good thing?”

Bryan Gadingan is also recognized for the article: Pagdami ng honor students, nakababahala nga ba?”

Another story, by intern Rianna Mae Santiago entitled Untold struggles of scholarship grantees” was also recognized.

Gaby on the other hand, is also nominated for her special piece and in-depth story What’s being done to prevent online sexual abuse of children in the Philippines?

“We take pride as being one of the top choices of today’s youth as a source for news, information and entertainment. We thank the DLSU for the nomination and recognition. This pushes us forward to strive for better work, anchored on the truth in journalism for today’s generation,” Republicasia’s Chief Future Officer Henrick “Hence” Chiu said.

Republicasia Junior Reporter Bryan Gadingan said he is thrilled that RepublicAsia Media has been acknowledged two years in a row despite being one of the industry’s youngest. He added that it is even more special because five articles were selected as finalists this year.

“On a personal level, this is my first time receiving this big recognition.” Bryan said. “It’s a surrel feeling that my young journalist career is gradually progressing. I hope that the future stories I write, or that we create will have a greater impact on the lives of young people, particularly Gen Z.”

RepublicAsia Junior Reporter Joana Deala also expressed her gratitude for being acknowledged for their efforts to amplify the voices of the 20th Lasallian Scholarium Awards. “Being one of the finalists for the 20th Lasallian Scholarium Awards is already a big win for us.” she said.

In revealing the finalists for the 2025 Lasallian Scholarium Awards (LSA)—University’s flagship program, the body recognized the “exemplary media coverage on young and education.”

Now on its 20th year, the event will highlight journalists’ unwavering and bold spirit when telling impactful stories, capturing the theme of “Hayag.”

The event is in partnership with the Student Media Office, featuring the recipient of the Outstanding Media Personality that DLSU campus journalists voted for.

Upon going through DLSU’s Lasallian Scholarium Awards, they continue to champion the truth-seekers and those who serve as an inspiration to the next generation through their craft print, online, and television media.

As the event enters its 20th year mark, a new category of Outstanding Feature, Film on Youth, and Education is to be introduced.

The merit-based awards program tapped an independent media-monitoring agency to scour youth and education stories from online news organizations and major print in the country.

The entries of finalists were shortlisted by a pool of award-winning faculty and field express from DLSU.

The awarding will be held on March 13 at the 4th floor of Verdure Henry Sy, Sr. Hall, DLSU campus.
