#RAFreshStart: New look for 2025? Try Mocha Mousse in your everyday makeup

A FEW days into the new year, we have seen local celebrities sporting new looks to kick off 2025, with some debuting vibrant hair colors.

There is global fashion icon Heart Evangelista with cherry-violet hair, television host Bianca Gonzales with a mix of red, brown, and violet hair color, Unkabogable star Vice Ganda with ginger-colored curls, and content creator Mimiyuuuh with a black permed bob cut.

Such colors can elevate one’s overall look and confidence. This 2025, Mocha Mousse sets the tone for hair color and even makeup routine.

Mocha Mousse, or PANTONE 17-1230, was named the Color of the Year for 2025 by the Pantone Color Institute, describing it as “a rich, warming brown” inspired by chocolate and coffee.

Professional makeup artist Chie Gonzales told republicasia that Mocha Mousse is the color that people should not be afraid of injecting into their beauty routine.

Mocha Mousse matches ‘all skin tones’

In a beauty store, individuals tend to see some swatching cosmetics on the back of their hands. This is their way to easily identify and choose the perfect makeup palette that will suit their tones.

But with Mocha Mousse, the makeup artist said they don’t have to worry so much if the hue will complement their skin.

“Mocha Mousse, I think, is a shade that will naturally blend with all skin tones,” said Gonzales.

“It will give a luxury and sophisticated feel to our everyday look,” she continued.

To achieve a Mocha Mousse makeup look, one can use a matte mocha or taupe shade eyeshadow over their lids. They can layer it with a soft bronze or metallic gold shimmer to create a dimension.

A dark brown eyeliner is also an option if they would go for a strong makeup look.

For those who want to try something new, Gonzales encouraged them to play around with Mocha Mousse in their everyday beauty routine.

“Don’t be afraid to use this color in your everyday look. Try to incorporate shimmer to elevate your look,” recommended the makeup artist.

She also suggested incorporating a bolder lipstick color, like red, for a “more glamorous feel.”

‘Bolder colors’ for 2025

Aside from Moche Mousse, Gonzales said “bold” makeup looks will be among the trends to try this year.

“For 2025, we will see bolder colors, shimmers for makeup but [with] emphasis on one feature of your face—like a bolder lip color or a muted shade of eyeshadow with a hint of shimmer for the eyes,” the makeup artist shared.

Regardless of the makeup palette, she said having natural glowy skin will remain a trend in 2025.

“When your skin is well loved, it will really show on the makeup that you want to achieve,” she added.

With all these new makeup recommendations put up online, Gonzales said one would know what would best fit them if they would experiment with the particular look they want to achieve.

“All of us have different kinds of personalities. Some might still choose to go minimalist, some might want to go full glam makeup,” she stressed.

“But, I think, the safest for us Filipinos is still the natural look with flushed blush,” she added.

One example is Gen Z and “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter’s makeup look, which Gonzales said gives off a “fresh” and “vibrant” glow.

So, what makeup look would you like to try this year?
