A STORY can be told in a variety of ways, one of which is through a music video.
Meet PR Quintos, a director of several music videos. Like many other filmmakers in the business, he had worked in other fields before settling behind the camera. He began his career as a shooter and cinematographer for advertising firms as well as a video editor for television.
He then moved on to directing music videos.
Signed under O/C Records, owned by musician Kean Cipriano, Quintos has made music videos that channel his creative interpretations of songwriters’ musical pieces.
Among the music videos he’s done are Alam Ko Naman by Frizzle Anne, Ako Ang Iyong Lagi by Earl Generao, and Tingin by Fritz Shioda, among many others.
He makes his concepts by understanding the soul of the song, especially when it carries strong emotions that demand some screen glory.
Eventually, he would like to progress from making music videos to directing a full-length film.
“So sa ngayon gusto ko lang maging at peace sa fact na I’m owning being a director – isa yan sa kailangan kong i-upscale. And syempre not gonna lie, eventually it’s gonna be a full length film,” he told republicasia.
He expressed gratitude to O/C Records for giving him the platform to hone his talent and creativity
“The more that I do, the more na nakikilala ko yung pagfi-filmmaking ko,” he said.
“I’m taking my time doing this, wala pa nga akong timeline on how it should happen, pero I’m really doing my best lang in every work,” he said.
Film concept
As a young director, he wants to dip his hands into various genres of film, but he particularly wants to tell stories about slices of life.
He aspires to make films about real-life family dramas that will touch many people’s hearts.
“Eventually gusto ko yung identity ng Filipino cinema is something that has family values, and simplicity pero at the same time kayang makipagsabayan sa international cinema,” he said.
