28 Squared Studios, Warner Bros. Pictures ink deal for ‘Under Parallel Skies’ distribution

by Joanna Deala

FILM production company 28 Squared Studios has officially joined forces with Warner Bros. Pictures for the distribution of “Under Parallel Skies,” topbilled by Filipina actress Janella Salvador and Thai actor Win Metawin.

The two companies formally inked their partnership during the press conference of the “Under Parallel Skies,” on Tuesday, March 5, in Pasay City.

The event was attended by Richard Juan, chief executive officer and the film’s executive producer, Kristhoff Cagape, chief operating officer of the production company and the co-executive producer of the film, and Rico Gonzales, director for distribution of Warner Bros. Philippines.

“Under Parallel Skies” is the second mainstream Filipino film that Warner Bros. will distribute after the horror film “Mallari” in 2023, which also starred Salvador.

“This really feels like a full circle moment for us since you watched Warner Bros. movies growing up, and now our debut film will be distributed by Warner Bros.,” Cagape said.

“[We’re] truly grateful for the trust, Rico, and we’re very excited for this movie to be shown in April,” he added.

Juan also thanked Warner Bros. for believing in 28 Squared Studios and its first movie.

“We feel so honored and even validated that Warner Bros. really believes in the vision that we have in this project, a cross-country project that me and Kristhoff really worked so hard at the start,” he said.

Juan also commended the talents that Filipino actors show both on and offscreen.

Gonzales, meanwhile, said he felt “happy and honored” about the collaboration between the two outfits.

Also present at the event were Salvador and “Under Parallel Skies” director Sigrid Bernardo. They joined the trio on stage to answer several questions from members of the media.

The official movie poster was also unveiled during the event.

28 Squared Studios also worked with Two Infinity Entertainment to produce the film.

This is not the first time that actors from the Philippines and Thailand collaborated for a movie. In 2012, Pinay actress Erich Gonzales and Thai superstar Mario Maurer starred in the 2012 romance film “Suddenly It’s Magic.”

About ‘Under Parallel Skies’

Written by Bernardo, “Under Parallel Skies” follows the story of a Thai bachelor named Parin who flies to Hong Kong to find his missing mother. Along the way, he encounters a Filipino hotelier named Iris, who helps him navigate love, heartbreak, and healing in the bustling city, despite their different identities.

The movie was filmed in Hong Kong from June to July 2023.

28 Squared Studios already released a one minute and 10-second teaser of the film last month, which has now amassed over 153,000 views on YouTube.

“Under Parallel Skies” is set to premiere in three countries: the Philippines on April 17, Singapore on May 1, and Thailand on May 9.

It will have its world premiere in Hong Kong on March 11, as one of the special events of the prestigious 17th Asian Film Awards (AFA).
